THANK YOU AND GIVE GOD THE GLORY!!! This past Sunday, Sept. 13, you gave $ 2,009.75 toward the Cherokee County Hunger Stomp! Adding that to a $25 gift that we already had on hand and that brings our total to 10,173 meals … that is an incredible start on the goal of 50,000 meals! As we get the reports from other are congregations and as other individual gifts come in we’ll certainly keep you informed. Well done and thank you for your obvious generosity for this project. The objective of this project is two-fold; first, engage the area churches to work together on something bigger than any one body and second; to share hope with a hungry world. That is how Cherokee County Hunger Stomp got its genesis; a desire to do something bigger than self, together with others and to reach into the lives of the those who do not have a personal, saving relationship with Jesus. This is accomplished in two ways; first, through the event itself. This is a great opportunity to invite and work side by side with someone who needs Jesus… building relations and being part of something bigger than self. Second; the families and individuals on the receiving end of the meal packages will know that these meals are available because someone in Iowa loves Jesus enough to give time, energy and money to help meet the needs of another person they may never meet.
Please continue to pray and pass the word about this project. Use this as a “foot-in-the-door” opportunity to strike up conversations, make invitations and connect others to church. We’ll need volunteers, additional financial donations and prayer warriors to help this project reach its maximum impact.
Now, in other news; how’s your prayer life changing? These past four weeks we’ve talked and studied about prayer. You’ve been given prayer journals and many of you have joined in a commitment of fasting for prayer. I encourage you to keep the faith and keep pressing forward in prayer; especially as we are moving into that time of year that we’ll set direction and leadership for the coming year. Keep praying! Ask God to show you His will, His direction and how He has prepared you to be involved and used in the fulfillment of His plan for First Church of Christ in Cherokee… and of course, for our other readers.. apply this to your own local church family. We’ll keep going in this direction of prayer with and for purpose.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch the movie, “War Room” – I encourage you to do so a.s.a.p. put down this newsletter – find a theater where it is playing, call a friend or 20 and GO TO THIS MOVIE !! It will motivate you to pray, and pray with strategy. This leads us to our next thoughts… the strategy and direction of prayer, personal and church life.
According to what Jesus said as recorded in Matthew 28:18-20 this is the God given mission of every church… Reach the lost and make disciples. Now, our church family here at FCC must understand what that looks and acts like in Cherokee and the surrounding areas. Please join in prayer and help examine where and how we are currently expend time, talent and treasure and where it is effective and where it needs a new direction. One step at a time, one bite at a time we’ll work together to be the church God wants us to be; a church that works as a gear in the transformative machine of God’s grace. Keep praying and give the glory for the good works He has prepared in advance for us to do.
