Hello and happy 2015! Welcome to a new column in your newsletter titled “Chairman’s Chatter”. As you newly elected board chair I thought that it might be beneficial to share some thoughts and ideas. It is my hope to provide you with information which will help our church to communicate better, share ideas quicker and hopefully grow in faith as we progress through the year. It has been stated that there is truly “nothing new under the sun”. I will submit that this is true, however I for one also know that I do not know everything there is to know under the sun! So here goes!
In this forum I hope to share ideas and information that may appear “new”, things that may have been tried before or just reiterate things from a slightly different perspective.
So here are some short comments in no particular order on my visions of the day:
I just love Pastor Tom’s current theme on “Relentless”. After all if we are secure in the belief of our resurrection, then what we really need during our time on “this side of the gates” is positive encouragement and lots of it and we need to attempt to be relentless in our efforts. We all walk on different spots of the same path. Some of us need more encouragement than others, but believe me we all need it!
We are all getting tired of what seems to be a long cold winter. Unfortunately my thought is that we have a good bit of the “old man” left to deal with. During the last board meeting we discussed at some length if and when we might cancel church activities in the interest of travel safety. Previously it has been church policy that if conditions were severe enough to cancel school, then we also would cancel our activities. Obviously this doesn’t work on Saturday or Sunday when school is normally not in session. It was decided that your board chair will keep an “eye” on potential storms moving through our area. If we find ourselves experiencing dangerous conditions, board members Mike Sparks and Mark Patton will be contacted and we discuss the situation from different perspectives. We will then make a decision on whether or not to hold activities/services as planned. I will then contact Pastor Tom prior to 7:00 AM in the morning. If we have determined that services will not be held; Tom will contact KTIV News Center (NBC affiliate) and KCHE radio (92.1 FM) to post announcements. Everyone is always encouraged to use his or her best judgment in deciding whether or not to travel, always erring on the side or safety.
Well, that’s it for now. I would like to encourage everyone to have a great week in the Lord, be encouraged, encourage each other and feel free to share comments and ideas. I can be reached via email at: email@example.com or by phone: (712) 375-5035.
I love it when a plan comes together!
