Merry Christmas and happy new year! Kathy, the girls and myself are so grateful for your kind and generous gifts over this Christmas season. A very generous bonus through the church board, in addition to cookie plates, gift certificates and even a piece of steak! Thank you all so much; Merry Christmas.
Are you just one of the millions to use this turn of the calendar as an opportunity for a new start? Among your new year resolutions be sure to include, at a high level of priority, a fresh start in discipline of Bible reading.
The cook can only use the ingredients that he has to create a meal. If he desires to create something different he must grow it, hunt it or go to market and buy it. Only then can he prepare a dish which is sure to please his tasters. So it is with your depth of faith. You can only use the ingredients that are in the pantry to formulate your response to any situation and build the platform upon which you will stand on tip-toe to see the goals on your farthest horizon. Fill your heart and mind with scripture and you will have a deep well from which to draw. The Psalmist wrote; “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” – Psalm 119:105 Let God’s word show you the way to a life you haven’t even imagined yet. Have you picked up your daily reading plan? We have printed copies available here at the church. This year’s plan will take you through the scriptures in a chronological order; blending the epistles of Paul into the history of Acts, etc. There is also a myriad of Bible reading plans available on-line. Such examples can be found linked on our church web site www.cherokeefcc.com .
Finally, … prayer. A movement of prayer has begun to well up in the congregation. We have a desire to grow in our own prayer life as well as helping others grow by giving them instruction, opportunity and perhaps even, a dedicated location for prayer. It has been proposed that we find a way to make a “Prayer Room” within our building. One that could potentially be open to the public 24 /7; with that objective we need to consider the hurdles and find solutions. Will you join us this Sunday, Jan 3 at 1:00 p.m. to dream, ask questions and land on solutions? I look forward to seeing you there.
