The last verse of Genesis 6 and the first verse of Genesis 7 show us the perfect picture of how faith and obedience belong together. Both are important and valuable, however, both are useless until they are combined. Obedience is to faith as the arteries are to the heart. Obedience is the glove to the hand of faith. Obedience is fuel to the engine of faith… I think you get the picture. This Sunday we’ll continue the “Old School” preaching series with the story of Noah. Last week we took a look at the story of Moses and the lessons we learned from his encounter with Pharaoh; primarily this: We have been set free by God so that we may worship Him! Incomplete freedom or worship were never going to be acceptable to Moses or God. It was for that reason that Pharaoh’s offer to the men, women and children to go and worship – but they had to leave their animals behind (Exodus 10:24-26) was rejected. We cannot worship with empty hands – worship must be complete and sacrificial.
I am excited about what I am seeing in the complete and sacrificial worship from so many in our congregation. Your devotion and generosity are a great encouragement to others. Just this last Sunday a first-time guest to our church commented on how much she got out of the entire service… she just loved it! Others may have looked around and seen a smaller than usual crowd or anticipated a smaller than usual offering or anticipated a little less energy in the room; but not this gal – she was blessed because she sat with a friend and had one expectation; to get closer to God. Well done church family – you allowed the Holy Spirit to work through you and made a difference in the life of someone you may not even know… well done.
To all of you… keep inviting your friends, family and neighbors. Keep investing and keep yourself open to being used to make connections with new and growing believers. I look forward to the lessons and experiences we have yet to share in this preaching series. What will Jonathan, Gideon, David, Samson and Esther teach us?
