Team spirit. A great sense of pride, investment , hope and ownership. During the fall of the year we see examples of this across the landscape of life. High school and college football… I still talk in first-person (we and me) about the Cherokee Braves, West Harrison Hawkeyes and MY beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. Team Spirit. We all have it… not always about sports, maybe it shows up in marching band, speech, community theater or where you work. One place where team spirit should show the most is in our church family. We literally are a team in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit leading and guiding the church by leading and equipping each person gives us the most authentic picture of Team Spirit.
Here is what the bible has to say. 1st Corinthians 12:3 tells us that “...no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) I know that many, if not most of our readers have made this great confession and have accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. We have the Holy Spirit - He is working to unite, equip and shape each of us - and consequently, the church. That same chapter of scripture goes on to say; “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.” The passage goes on to talk about a variety of ways the Holy Spirit equips each of us in many different ways so that we all can work together as one body for the glory of the Lord. That is the perfect picture of the church. Team Spirit! That is what we are, what we have and what we show. Excitement, ownership, investment, protection, pride… all qualities of a great team.
First Church of Christ in Cherokee is that team. When we work together, submitting to the Spirit, God is glorified by His church reflecting His Spirit. The Holy Spirit has led us to an understanding our purpose and identity in this community. First Church of Christ is Committed to Growth by Sharing Life… John 15 The Holy Spirit is urging each of us to grow in a mature, reproducing, fruit producing relationship with Jesus as we stay connected to Him by surrendering (share) all parts of life with him and others. Victory and struggle. Strength and weakness. Excess and need. Share together - grow together - bound together by His Spirit.
Go Team FCC !!! Cheering you on…
