Kami grew up on a dairy farm in Chambers, Nebraska and was an eighteen-year member of the First Christian Church of O’Neill, Nebraska. Kami graduated from Dordt College (Sioux Center, Iowa) in December of 2017 with a degree in Youth Ministry and minor in Communication. She shares custody of an orange furry cat-child named Sparta.
Prior to her calling in Cherokee, Kami spent her high school years teaching a preschool youth group class in a program called AWANA and spent the summers in between her high school years volunteering at Pible Bible Camp as a camp counselor, recreation director, and worship director. She spent her three and a half years of college as a regular youth group volunteer and small group leader. In the summer of 2015, she established a youth group at F Street Neighborhood Church in Lincoln, Nebraska (where she was the boss of a Husker football player). In the summer of 2017, Kami served as the Community Service Coordinator and staff member operating a summer-long YouthWorks mission trip.
Kami’s favorite leisure activities are skateboarding and juggling. Her passion is forming Christ-centered relationships with youth, particularly those who are social outcasts. She strives to create an atmosphere that is both serious and silly. Her favorite Bible passages are Romans 12:1-2 and Isaiah 6:5-8. And her favorite food is Frog Eye Salad.
