Tom Lewis has served First Church of Christ as our Preaching Minister since September 30, 2007. He is married to his high school and church camp sweetheart, Kathy, and has been blessed with three daughters.
Prior to his calling in Cherokee, Tom served a nine year ministry as the Senior Minister at First Christian Church in Tabor, Iowa. During the last three years of his college days and the first two years after graduation he served as a Youth Minister at the Christian Church in Auburn, Nebraska. Tom is a 1986 graduate of West Harrison High School in Mondamin, Iowa and a 1996 graduate of Nebraska Christian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Youth Ministries.
Tom grew up in the fellowship of the Christian Church in his hometown of Mondamin, Iowa. He attributes his desire to serve full time in ministry to the influence of his parents, church camp and the elders and youth leaders of his home church.
Tom's favorite Bible verses are Hebrews 12:1-3 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. He loves to spend time with his family and friends. He passionate about the power and ministry of church camp and is an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Detroit Tigers.
Preacher Tom has one prayer for this body, that we are unified under Christ Jesus as the head and we serve His people with passion, grace, and love.
Kami grew up on a dairy farm in Chambers, Nebraska and was an eighteen-year member of the First Christian Church of O’Neill, Nebraska. Kami graduated from Dordt College (Sioux Center, Iowa) in December of 2017 with a degree in Youth Ministry and minor in Communication. She shares custody of an orange furry kitten-child named Sparta.
Prior to her calling in Cherokee, Kami spent her high school years teaching a preschool youth group class in a program called AWANA and spent the summers in between her high school years volunteering at Pible Bible Camp as a camp counselor, recreation director, and worship director. She spent her three and a half years of college as a regular youth group volunteer and small group leader. In the summer of 2015, she established a youth group at F Street Neighborhood Church in Lincoln, Nebraska (where she was the boss of a Husker football player). In the summer of 2017, Kami served as the Community Service Coordinator and staff member operating a summer-long YouthWorks mission trip.
Kami’s favorite leisure activities are skateboarding and juggling. Her passion is forming Christ-centered relationships with youth, particularly those who are social outcasts. She strives to create an atmosphere that is both serious and silly. Her favorite Bible passages are Romans 12:1-2 and Isaiah 6:5-8. And her favorite food is Frog Eye Salad.
