Our Mission & Vision

Our vision and mission is to help connect people to faith

We are a body of Believers who simply want to Love one another and Grow in their relationship with God. We believe this is best accomplished when we:

  • Share our story of faith with others
  • Serve with a heart of generosity, compassion and hospitality
  • Gather to encourage, study and worship
  • Devote ourselves to a life filled with prayer
  • Love others just as Christ Jesus has loved us

The church is established by God and powered by the Holy Spirit so that each believer may let their light shine through service for God’s glory as we reach the lost through love, encouragement, and prayer.

First Church of Christ is:

A Christian Church

We are not the only Christians be we are Christians only. We do share a heritage and ministry opportunities through camps, colleges, mission agencies, and other parachurch organizations with other like minded Christian Churches and Churches of Christ around the world. We would describe ourselves as being in between a traditional and a contemporary church.

A Bible Church

The Bible is our standard of faith and practice. We seek to restore and follow the pattern of the church in the New Testament. The Bible is our one and only book of authority.

A Church that Belongs to Jesus

He is our Head, our Leader, our Lord and our Savior. We have no creed but Christ, the only Son of God.

A Mission Minded Church

We have a focus on missions which means we are intentional about reaching across cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic barriers to present the gospel message of Jesus.

A Caring Church

Compassion fund, funerals, grief, in home meals and much more embody the the caring of the people of this church.

Focused on Growth

We will preach the good news of Jesus to a lost world. We desire to used by God to save as many as possible. We will teach the whole Bible in a systemic way to enable Christians to grow personally.

We Experience

A weekly celebration of the Lord’s supper.

The terms of salvation and church membership are one in the same.

God’s continued answers to prayer, when approached in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

The Great Commission, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you,” was given first to the Apostles and then every Christian. People today should use every means at their disposal to fulfill the Great Commission.

Our Beliefs & Values

The church is established by God and powered by the Holy Spirit so that each believer may let their light shine through service for God’s glory as we reach the lost through love, encouragement, and prayer.

Living with Christ-like love will transform both us and the world around us.

God’s Word, the Bible, is our authority and guide for life.

God is the Creator: Jesus His Son, is the Christ; and the Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Guide

The Bible, consisting of Old and New Testament scriptures, was given through the inspiration of God and the New Testament scripture constitutes the complete and final authority for the church.

Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, was born of the Virgin Mary; he Lived, walked and talked on this earth; He was tempted in every way, just as we are – yet He was without sin; He was betrayed, condemned, crucified – dying for our sins; He was buried; He was raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures; forty days after His resurrection He ascended to the Father and now sits at the right hand of God, interceding for us.

A congregational form of church government – the autonomy of the local church; the local church is free from state, national, and international church organizations, but subject completely to the Christ and His word.

Love is a mark of discipleship. “In essentials unity. In non-essentials liberty. In all things love.”

The terms of salvation are these:

  •  A person shall believe in Jesus as Christ and Lord, and as the one and only Son of God.
  • He shall repent of his sins and confess Jesus’ name before men.
  • He shall be buried with Him in Christian baptism to arise and walk in newness of life to be a loyal and faithful steward of Christ in all things until death; ” . . . for there is not other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

Jesus Christ will come again; the dead will be raised; and God through Him shall judge the just and the unjust.

Easter Sermon Series

February 28 - April 4, 2021
@ 9:30am

There is an awesome power about the cross.  Jesus said, “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself” (John 12:32).  There is a mysterious magnetism about the cross that attracts us.  The cross convicts the sinner, it convinces the skeptic, it humbles the arrogant.  The Bible says, “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18).  Some consider the cross “foolishness” today.  They can look in the face of the crucified Christ and be totally indifferent.  But to those of us who are Christian, we know that the cross forgives our sin, transforms our daily attitude, and gives us an eternal hope.

Over the course of this Easter sermon series, we want to stand beneath the cross and look at the Savior dying for us again.  We’re going to look at the cross from the perspective of a variety of people who were there in the first century.  And the hope is that we will see it in a fresh way and that we will conclude of a truth, “This man is the Son of God, dying for me.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean that First Church of Christ is a non-denominational church?

It simply means that we are an independent church of the Restoration movement. We are not affiliated or connected with any denomination, man-made organization or institution. Our only allegiance is to the Lord and His Word. We are led by a board of elected elders and deacons. We are financially supported by our members through weekly offering, tithing and endowments.

Does First Church of Chirst emphasize and support missions?

At First Church of Christ we provide montly financial support to six missions that include local and global missions. In addition to that some of our ministry groups also provide support to various missions both financially, spiritually, and hands-on work. You can learn more on our Missions page and on our Ministries page.

Why are people baptized by immersion at First Church of Christ?

Because Jesus commands it. (Matthew 28:18-20). Baptism must picture three realities to be a Scriptural baptism: death burial and resurrection. Why? Because water baptism is our public identification with Christ as Lord and Savior, and our baptism represents His death, burial and resurrection. (see Romans 6:1-4)

If I was baptized (by immersion) in another church, do I have to be baptized again to get connected as a member of First Church of Christ?

Why do you observe communion every week?

Acts 20:7 says, “On the first day of the week we came together to break bread.” Jesus didn’t prescribe how often we were to take communion / the Lord’s supper, He just said that we were to “do this in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-25)

Is there a Sunday School Program

Yes. First Church of Christ offers Bible Classes following the Sunday morning worship. There are classes for adults, women, men, children and a Standard Curriculum class.
