Many people are afraid to die. Christians talk a good game about wanting to go to heaven, but the truth is we still have a fear of dying. Death is mysterious, it’s permanent, it’s usually undignified and often painful. It’s counter to our instinct to live. The Bible refers to death as the last enemy to be defeated and speaks of people being in life-long bondage to the fear of death.
