Good morning, church family & friends!
In the rush of our daily lives, it is easy to let the urgent drown out the important. We run from task to task, answering emails, managing schedules, and chasing goals that the world tells us are essential. But if we were to hit pause and truly examine our hearts, what would we say is most important to us? Does the way we spend our time, money, and energy reflect those values, or have we drifted off course?
Jesus’ words in Matthew offer a powerful corrective to our scattered priorities. He doesn’t say we shouldn't care about our needs or responsibilities, but He instructs us on the order of operations: "Seek first the kingdom." This isn't just about adding a morning prayer to a busy schedule; it is about reorienting our entire life so that God’s will is the filter through which we make every decision. What does this look like practically?
It might mean choosing to put down your phone in the evening to be fully present with your spouse or children, prioritizing connection over distraction. It could mean reevaluating your finances to support a cause that advances the Gospel rather than upgrading a lifestyle that is already comfortable. It might look like carving out quiet time for scripture before checking the news, signaling to your spirit that God’s voice matters most.
Today, take a moment to do an honest inventory. Ask God to reveal where your priorities may have shifted. When we align our hearts with what is important to Him—loving people, serving others, and growing in faith—we find a peace and purpose that worldly success can never provide.
Blessings,
Pastor David
