Dishonesty and cheating have become so prevalent in our world that they’re often normalized. Whether it’s cutting corners at work, fudging numbers on taxes, or betraying trust in relationships, it’s easy to justify these actions when we see them happening all around us. The pressure to succeed, fit in, or protect our own interests can make dishonesty seem like the easy way out. But as followers of Christ, we are called to live by a different standard—the standard of truth and integrity.
King David’s words in Psalm 101 remind us of God’s heart for honesty and righteousness. “No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house,” he writes. These are strong words but deeply revealing of how much God values truth. While the world may reward deception in the short term, God’s Word reminds us that living in alignment with His truth brings eternal rewards—peace of mind, healthy relationships, and a deeper connection with Him.
Jesus Himself is the ultimate example of integrity. Even when faced with temptation in the wilderness, He did not compromise the truth for personal gain or comfort. Instead, He chose to honor God and stand firm in righteousness. We, too, are equipped to follow His example through the Holy Spirit living within us.
When the temptation to cheat or be dishonest arises, ask yourself, “Who am I trying to please?” Is it the world, which so often praises shortcuts and deceit, or is it God, who values truth in our inward being (Psalm 51:6)? Standing firm in honesty may not always be easy, but it is a mark of our faith and our trust in God’s provision.
Blessings,
Pastor David
